Introduction to Feng Shui

Feng Shui, also called the Chinese Art of Placement, is a technique that is thousands of years old for bringing balance to one's home, business and the land that surrounds them. It looks at many areas of one's life (health, wealth, family, relationships, career, friends, fame, children, and knowledge) to determine blockages within the home or business, that might cause some types of problems, and then at the different types of "cures" that can be used to alleviate the problem. The methods for analyzing a space and the "cures" to correct the problems can vary from esoteric modalities used for centuries to technological solutions of our current timeline. Both must blend in harmony to created balance in one's life.
Feng Shui has its roots in the Chinese reverence for nature and belief in the oneness of all things. The assumption is that the key to living a harmonious life is to reflect the balance of nature in their daily lives. This is most easily understood by the following concepts: Yin and Yang, chi, and the Five Elements ?? Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Nevertheless, Feng Shui is used to increase wealth, health, and harmonious relationships.
The oldest known Feng Shui device consists of a two-sided board with astronomical sightlines. Liuren astrolabes (the ancestor of today??s Luopan) have been unearthed from Qin-era tombs at Wangjiatai and Zhoujiatai. These devices date between 278 BC and 209 BC. Today Feng Shui practitioners can select from three types of Luopan or Feng Shui compasses: San He (the so-called "form school", although the compass name means "Triple Combination"), San Yuan (the so-called "compass school", although the compass name actually refers to time), and the Zong He that combines the other two.
Good Feng Shui can be achieved by positioning furniture, fixtures etc at the appropriate places based on careful calculations done by the Feng Shui practitioner. Nevertheless, it still boils down to the skills of the practitioner, and his ability to read the different aspect and elements in the environment and the people, achieving the prefect overall balance of Yin and Yang.
The purpose of life is to create balance in all things allowing your consciousness to evolve beyond time and emotion. When you are in a space where Feng Shui has been used to create balance - you will experience it in all levels of your soul's awareness.

Feng Shui cures

Feng Shui cures brings balance and harmony into the home. The colour, light, pictures, living things and so on influence the movement of energy in your home and have a part in energizing or stablizing the chi in your personal space.

The colors can be used to promote or enhance an area of the Bagua in your home. They can also be used to promote a desired feeling or mood. The following is a list of some common colors and what the color symbolizes in Feng Shui.
Green is associated with the Family area of the Bagua. It is the color of nature and thus symbolizes new life and new beginnings. It is a very refreshing and balancing color that is known to bring energy to an area.
Purple is associated with the Wealth area of the Bagua. Purple is known as the color of royalty and wealth.
Orange is a color that encourages communication and organization. It can be used to promote concentration and focus.
Red is associated with the Fame/Reputation area of the Bagua. This powerful color is associated with energy, power and warmth. It is also the color of good luck and confidence.
Pink is associated with the Marriage and Relationship area of the Bagua. This color is connected to romance, love, marriage and happiness
White is related to the Children/Creativity area of the bagua.It symbolizes cleanliness, purity, and new beginnings.
Black is associated with the Career area of the Bagua. Black is a color that is linked to power, money and authority. This color is practical to use in small amounts in a room. Using too much black in a room though can leave a feeling of despair or depression.
Blue has something to do with the Knowledge area of the Bagua. This color promotes a feeling of relaxation, calmness and peacefulness.
Yellow is associated with the Health area of the Bagua and it symbolizes intelligence and focused attention.
Brown (earth tones) is associated with the Health area of the Bagua and is a color connected with nature and being outdoors. This color is known to promote stability and a feeling of being grounded.
Light
Lighting is a simple Feng Shui cure for the home. Bring Yin or Yang lighting into your home to activate or deactivate the energy of a specific life area. If you want to activate a life area, put on the lights. If you want to deactivate an area, turn off the lights.
Fame (South): Place a bright light in this area. The light should face up and illuminate a specific part of the area. Highlight your goal plans or an object that symbolizes your life goals.
Career (North): A medium light in this area is ideal, but not overpowering or you will be only focused on your career endeavors.
Wealth (Southeast): Have a vertical rectangular light that represents upward growth. A Yang light is ideal. Place the light on a timer for the morning and evening hours.
Personal Relationship (Southwest): Keep the spark alive with a small decorative lamp, especially in the bedroom. Have a green or pink shade to represent growth and love in your relationship.
Family (East): Have a light on in the family room. A fireplace is also a great Feng Shui cure for this area. It promotes closeness and warmth.
Children/Creativity (West): Have a unique lamp for the west area of the home. Place it in the family room or the child's bedroom, something that is silly and outrageous.
Travel/Helpful People (Northwest): Place a spotlight on a globe or have a globe lamp. This would keep the energy moving in the Northwest area of your home.
Knowledge (Northeast): A small lamp that directly highlights your work. You may use a desk lamp, book lamp or a small lamp that can be easily moved.
Touch
Touch is often overlooked in Feng Shui. We touch things everyday but do not truly feel what we are touching. If you take a day to slow down and really feel things, you??ll feel the warmth of your couch or the coolness of your tables or the sensations from your pillows, clothes, food. The warmth of a mug relaxes you while the coldness of a drink makes you want to move and get going with your day.
Smell
Aromas are very powerful and are easy to bring into the home. The smell of lemons makes the home feel light and airy while the smell of a rotten bag of potatoes makes your home feel heavy and thick. One small smell from one section of the home changes the energy composition through the entire house. We become used to our house smells. Walk into your home with your eyes closed after being away a couple of hours to really smell your home. What does it do for you? You can change the smell of your home and the energy level with essential oils, good quality scented candles and fresh air. After an argument, light a lavender candle to bring harmony into the home.
Living Thing
Pets, plants, and flowers uplift the energy in the home. If your green pet skills are low, put a bunch of flowers on your grocery list to bring in fresh vibrant energy. Use the color chart to decide what type of flowers to bring into the home.
Pictures/Objects
Homes are filled with artwork. What does your artwork say about you? If you want a relationship, look around at all your art and decorative objects and figure out what they are saying? Place art around the home that is in tune to what you want today. Much of our stuff was for yesterday, we need to change our stuff to get new results. If you do not want to get rid of your artwork, take it down for 2-4 weeks and place it in storage. Notice the changes that occur. Place the artwork back. Remember the old saying; "We are what we see."
Movement
Energy is constantly swirling around us. Many times we forget about the importance of air and its quality on us. A home that is smoke filled is heavy and tiring. While a home that has a sweet breeze from the outside is refreshing and uplifting. Transform your air by opening a window even on those cold days if only for a minute.
